In the dynamic world of college softball, every season brings new opportunities for growth and success. This year, the LSU Softball program welcomes a truly exceptional addition to their roster. The 2022 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, Ashley Vallejo, is set to join the team after an inspiring comeback journey following knee surgery that sidelined her for the entire season. The former McNeese Cowgirl is one who will not have to travel far from Lake Charles to her new home in Baton Rouge.
Vallejo participated in 33 games during the 2023 season, starting in 26 of them and finishing 13. She achieved seven shutouts and made one save. She pitched for a total of 152.1 innings, maintaining a 2.25 ERA, and ended the season with a 19-9 record. Vallejo led the team in both wins (19) and strikeouts (112), holding opponents to a .215 batting average. Her performance earned her a spot on the All-SLC (2nd team) and the SLC All-Tournament Team.
With the addition of Ashley Vallejo to their pitching staff, LSU Softball is gearing up for an exciting season ahead. Vallejo brings not only her exceptional pitching skills but also a winning mindset that is sure to elevate the team's performance. Despite the departure of key players like Raelin Chaffin and Emma Strood, LSU's pitching lineup remains formidable with talents such as All-American Sydney Berzon and freshman phenom Jayden Heavener. Vallejo's presence adds depth and experience to an already impressive roster, setting the stage for a competitive season.
Vallejo's return symbolizes not only a personal triumph but also a strategic move that has the potential to reshape this LSU pitching staff.
