I was able to catch up with Lafayette Christian Academy star defensive end Melvin Hills and discuss his last season, the upcoming season and recruiting. At 6'4"- 270lbs Hills is a bit of a problem for high schools across Louisiana. His Junior season he put up impressive numbers from his defensive line position with 90 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 3 fumble recoveries.
When asked what he is working on improving on this off-season he replied "my pad level and hand speed." Hills on what he took away from last season " Really just us needing to finish. I'm going to remember the feeling of that loss we got in the last min of the championship game." Regarding where he feels improved, he added "I improved in every way, I truly believe I am the best d-linemen. I’m still coming for number 1."
What is Hills looking for in a program "I’m looking for a program I can help be great, looking for a good environment and culture and great fan base and a family not just a team." On his relationship with the staff "My relationship with coach Lindsay is great, been knowing him since he was at SC." With teammate Ju'Juan Johnson committing and having former teammates like Fitzgerald West and Jordan Allen here I asked him if that would play a part in his decision "A lil bit but at the end of the day I'm a go where what’s best for me." Regarding the push from the LSU staff " I like the push they are having for instate happy they can see the talent." Soon he will be releasing a TOP 5 and plans on committing before his Senior season."
