LSU Women's Hoops Signee: Top 75 Wing Janae Kent

Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers are hot off the press as national champions and are only getting stronger by capitalizing off their successes with the additions of transfers like Aneesah Morrow and Hailey Van Lith. Lets rewind though to before March Madness began, this staff was already recruiting the No.1 overall recruiting class of High School players. One of those players being No.73 overall player Janae Kent out of Oak Forest H.S. in Illinois.

Kent is a 6'0" wing who was the top player in the state of Illinois and will be integral part of the future in Baton Rouge. Janae took some time to discuss her senior season with me, as she detailed "Regarding her Senior season Kent detailed "In my final year at Oak Forest the goal was to go further than we did last year (which was regional championship). We had an up and down season, had a few bumps in the road but overall very good. We came up short of our goal when we lost to Hillcrest, (one of our rivals) in an overtime regional championship game. But overall the season was good and I wouldn’t trade it for anything." Statistically, she averaged 24.04 PPG, 8.2 Rebounds Per Game, 2.2 Steals Per Game, and 20 blocks on the season. For her High School career she scored 2,063 points. She played in 98 games in her career and posted a double-double in 44 of those games.

Having committed to LSU before the march madness that led to a championship I asked Kent what was it that stood out to her and made her realize LSU was the school for her? I knew LSU was for me after I took my unofficial visit in February of 2022. The staff is definitely one of the best I’ve been around. And to have the opportunity to play under Coach Mulkey is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. LSU provides so many other opportunities as well as basketball too." On her goals for her Freshman season as a Tigers Kent added "my goal is to go in and do whatever Mulkey and get staff ask of me. I definitely want to be a freshman that can come in and make some kind of impact to such a good team."

On who the Tigers beat out for her signature " Alabama, Michigan State, and Kentucky were in my top 4 with LSU." We touched on her relationship with the staff and she stated " good, I haven’t known them for the longest amount of time but it’s definitely a family vibe. I can’t wait to get on campus and really get to know everyone and build those connections more." I asked her to describe her style of play " I’m super versatile which allows me to play many positions and do different things. I can get to the basket, get to the pull up, and shoot the 3 ball. And being able to score on all 3 levels adds to my game."

She says regarding players she is looking forward to playing with "I’m looking forward to play with everyone there’s so much talent at LSU I’ll be able to learn so much from the older players." Outside of hoops she says "I like to shop and watch tv shows."
