Makayla Gonglik Turning Heads with Elite Bat and Versatile Game

Big offensive numbers often grab attention, but the story behind them is what truly defines a rising player. For Makayla Gonglik, last season provided plenty of both.

The multi-position standout from Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania delivered an impressive statistical campaign, hitting .500 with 58 RBIs and 8 home runs while posting a remarkable .968 on-base percentage. Even earlier in her development, Gonglik showed her offensive potential, batting .680 with 28 RBIs and 3 home runs during her middle school season. Going into her freshman season she is a name to watch as she already has the eyes of many P4 schools.

For LSU softball fans who closely follow the next generation of talent across the country, Gonglik is another young player beginning to generate attention. With her ability to impact the game both at the plate and across multiple defensive positions, she represents the type of versatile athlete that continues to shape the future of high-level college softball.

While those numbers jump off the page, Gonglik says what meant the most to her wasn’t just the results — it was proving herself against top competition. “I was most proud of pitching against committed players and striking them out,” Gonglik said. “I was also proud of myself for hitting against committed pitchers and getting good hard hits.”

A Disciplined Approach at the Plate

When Gonglik steps into the batter’s box, she does so with a clear plan. “My personal approach when I get ready to step into the box is to hunt certain pitches and focus on making solid contact.” That mindset has helped her maintain production as the competition level has increased through travel ball and elite tournaments.

Learning to Adjust

As players progress through higher levels of competition, adjustments become necessary. Gonglik says facing different pitching speeds and styles has been one of the biggest learning curves in her development. “During travel season I learned that I have to adjust to many different speeds and continue to work harder.”

The ability to make those adjustments quickly is often what separates good hitters from great ones — something Gonglik continues to develop with each season.

The Value of Versatility

Another major strength in Gonglik’s game is her ability to contribute in multiple roles. Listed as a pitcher, right fielder, and utility player, she embraces the flexibility that comes with playing several positions. “I think versatility is very important to me because it’s important to have the ability to play many positions,” Gonglik explained. “If I’m put in a certain situation, I want to be ready for whatever situation is given.”

While she enjoys contributing wherever her team needs her, Gonglik says she feels most comfortable in the outfield. “I feel most comfortable in right field because I’m good at tracking the ball and I think I have a strong arm.”

Growth in the Circle

Along with her offensive production and defensive versatility, Gonglik is also continuing to develop her pitching. “As a pitcher, I’m working most on my mental approach and movement while preparing for my next season.” Focusing on the mental side of pitching — learning to control situations and stay composed — is often a key step in a young pitcher’s progression.

Competing Against the Best

Gonglik currently competes with Ohio Outlaws National, one of the premier travel organizations in the country. Playing in that environment means consistently facing some of the best talent in youth softball.

“I think playing with the ’27 team helped me out with playing at a higher level and competing with the best even though I’m still 14U eligible.” The experience has given her the opportunity to challenge herself against older players and elite competition.

Family Influence

Softball also runs deep in the Gonglik family. Makayla’s sister Sydney Gonglik is already regarded as one of the top players in the country and is committed to LSU Softball.

Rather than feeling overshadowed, Makayla says her sister’s success has helped motivate her own journey. “I’m very proud of my sister for all of her achievements with her softball journey,” Gonglik said. “She carved out a pathway for me to learn from and excel in my softball journey.”

Looking Ahead

With a powerful bat, positional versatility, and experience competing against elite talent, Gonglik continues to build momentum as she develops her game. Still early in her career, she remains focused on improving every aspect of her skillset and embracing the challenges that come with playing at a high level.

For Gonglik, the goal is simple — continue working, continue improving, and take advantage of every opportunity to compete
