Discovering the Future of Softball: Meet Kierstyn Lambeth

Here at LSU Daily News we will be running a series on the up and coming future college softball stars. Taking a look at their lives both on the field and off the field. We start the series with a Kierstyn Lambeth dynamite hitter from the class of 2027 out of Clear Creek HS in League City, Texas. She plays her club ball with Impact Gold 2K9 National, one of the premier programs in the country.

I was able to do a Q&A with the up and coming softball star and when we started talking about goals and she was quick to mention "I actually just accomplished a goal! I made the varsity Softball Team for my high school. Both of my parents were 4 year lettermen in high school, so it has been a goal of mine, too." That was not her only thing she looks to accomplish as she told me " Other goals are also to continue to work towards making the USA National team and going to college on a softball scholarship."

Kierstyn is a fantastic all around athlete that has played most sports as she mentioned "When I was in junior high, I played everything! Volleyball, basketball, tennis, track, and soccer for my school and also club softball. Now that I’m in high school, I am focusing more on Softball but I still love to play volleyball too." It did not take me long to see where she got her athletic gifts. She is the daughter of two former college athletes as her parents met while attending Texarkana College where her dad played baseball and her mother was there to play softball before transferring to University of Houston to continue playing softball. Much like Kierstyn her mom played softball, volleyball, basketball and Power-lifting in high school and it worth noting her mother was also a coach at the collegiate level .

When asked if she has anyone who has been an inspiration to her she stated "Both of my parents have been an inspiration for me. They were both college athletes and push me to be my best. My Impact Gold 2K9 teammates are constantly inspiring me as well. We are all so competitive and have the desire and drive to win and be the best. " Lambeth on describing her playing style "I would describe my game as intense yet calm. When I’m out on the field, I don’t hear or see anything else except for the game." We discussed what she feels makes her a great athlete and she said " I am very strong-willed. I feel like it’s never enough and I am constantly working on my craft to be a better softball player and teammate." She added "I think my love for competition drives me the most. And I just love being out on the field with my teammates, making the next play, getting another hit or just cheering them on. "

I am most proud of being able to wear USA across my chest for the HPP games and events. One day I’d love to represent the USA on the international stage. - Kierstyn Lambeth

Kierstyn has been to many camps in the past but she has a handful that stand out to her as she said "I’ve been to several camps, but I think two that stand out the most are university of Arkansas, Arizona and LSU. I hope to attend more camps so I can learn about other universities and their programs. I want to make sure I pick the right university for me both educationally and athletically." It is very early on the process for Lambeth as college coaches are not able to begin contacting prospects until their Junior season but I asked the future college player if she has any favorites and she replied with "LSU and Houston are two teams I’ve always rooted for. But I root for lots of teams—especially those that are playing in the women’s college World Series. I think it’s exciting that now we can watch women’s sports on TV more easily."

I asked her what is important to her outside of softball and her response "Outside of Softball, my family is the most important thing. I have a really big extended family and love spending time with everyone. My cousins are like my siblings and I’m very close to my grandparents." When not playing softball she says " I am an artist at heart, I love to draw and paint. I am also an avid reader and like a good love story. "

Kierstyn would like to dedicate the article to Morgan “Mo” Wilson. She was an incredible softball player, teammate and friend. I will never forget Mo and will always play for her. #IPlayForMo #ForeverMo3
