LSU opened SEC play on the road against No. 1 Tennessee and showed flashes of what this team can be, jumping out to 4-0 leads in Games 2 and 3 and pushing a team that hadn’t really been tested all season.
But they couldn’t finish.
Fast forward to this weekend against No. 16 Texas A&M, and the story early felt all too familiar.

Through the first two games, the offense struggled to find rhythm:
• 7-for-48 at the plate
• 3-for-21 with runners on
• 3-for-17 with two outs
A team that led the SEC in stolen bases coming in didn’t attempt a single steal in those first two games. The pressure just wasn’t there.
And when this offense presses, you can see it — getting behind in counts, chasing, and letting pitchers dictate at-bats instead of the other way around.
But tonight felt different. On a cold, windy night staring 0-6 in SEC play in the face, LSU responded. They didn’t suddenly become overly aggressive — they became intentional.
They put the ball in play. They forced Texas A&M to make plays. They applied pressure when they got runners on. And behind a complete game from Tatum Clopton (7.0 IP, 6 K), the Tigers walk away with a 7-2 win to close the series.
Now 1-5 in SEC play, LSU heads into a key matchup with South Carolina with something they haven’t had much of lately:
Momentum.
This could be the spark that ignites this group.
