LSU has signed back-to-back top-two recruiting classes. With the 2028 cycle opening September 1, here is my early prediction for the next group of Tigers, led by some of the nation’s top prospects.

As September 1 approaches, nationally ranked 2028 infielder Payton Wilson is positioned as one of the premier recruits in the country. After leading East Coweta to the Georgia state championship game and putting together an impressive summer with Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier, Wilson discusses her development, growing power at the plate, the impact of Coach Rock, and what she hopes college coaches see when recruiting officially begins.

Sometimes the best journeys come full circle. For Madison and Mackenzie Pickens, that journey began at Buford High School in Flowery Branch, Georgia, where they helped continue one of the nation’s premier softball programs. It then split into separate paths at Louisville and Ole Miss before leading them back to the same dugout in Baton Rouge.

When Mickey Winchell entered the transfer portal, she wasn’t simply looking for a new place to play softball. She was looking for a program that could challenge her, develop her, and give her an opportunity to compete for championships during the final season of her college career. She found that at LSU.

As LSU softball closes the book on its 15th season under Beth Torina, it’s important to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of what this program has consistently been under her leadership. The Tigers just reached another Super Regional in 2026, continuing a run of postseason consistency that very few programs nationally have matched over the last decade and a half.

I stated after the South Carolina series I felt the series win was more than just a win but more of this team showed us who they could be. This weekend at home against the Sooners the Lady Tigers built on that by ending Oklahoma’s 22 game winning streak and nearly taking the series against the No. 3 ranked Sooners.

There are weekends in SEC play that test where you are, and then there are weekends that start to show where you might be going. LSU’s trip to South Carolina felt like the latter. It was not clean, it was not easy, but it was revealing in all the ways that matter this time of year.

And when this offense presses, you can see it — getting behind in counts, chasing, and letting pitchers dictate at-bats instead of the other way around. But tonight felt different. On a cold, windy night staring 0-6 in SEC play in the face, LSU responded. They didn’t suddenly become overly aggressive — they became intentional.

The Tigers have been dominant at Tiger Park, posting a perfect 15–0 record in Baton Rouge so far this season. LSU’s success at home has been a major factor in its early-season results, especially compared to its performances away from Baton Rouge.

No. 17 LSU Tigers softball pushed the nation’s top-ranked team throughout the weekend but ultimately came up short as the Tennessee Lady Volunteers softball walked off the Tigers 8–5 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep in Knoxville. Baton Rouge — No. 17 LSU softball ended its Purple & Gold Challenge weekend undefeated at Tiger Park thanks to a mix of power, clutch hitting, and timely pitching — and now turns its attention to Tuesday night in Lake Charles.

Fast forward to this weekend. If it could go wrong for LSU, it did. From walks, hit batters, wild pitches, defensive blunders, missed opportunities at the plate and not being able to convert with runners in scoring position — all of it has shown up at times. And when you’re playing teams that are on fire offensively, like Duke and UCLA, those issues get exposed quickly.
